Last night, was kind of a sleepless night, I tried not to get all nervouse about it,but I couldn't help it. My husband and Mom flew in late night Sunday. So I had only about 4-5 hours of sleep. I was given specific instructions on Wed June 17th no eating 8 hours prior to Surgery and I had to use Anti-Bacterial wipe to reduce infection.
My alarm went off and shortly after my lovely Mom was telling me "its time to get up!". I woke my Dad and husband also. I packed a overnight bag with some personal items, i.e wipes, toothpaste, toothbrush, book and my Mary Kay Applause magazine. The smell of coffee was in the air(my parents are big coffee drinkers). I didn't have any coffee because my instructions specifically said no creamer, I'm sorry but I have to have creamer in my coffee along with some sugar. I hadn't eatin since 10:30pm last night. I dont remember being hungry so it was cool.
The weather was a little chilly and later on the sun came out. We arrive at the hospital around 6:20 am, 2nd floor, to get vitals taken, verify some final information, and I got the lovely armband. My Dad could only recall him being at the hospital and not any of his kids being operated on, so for him it was a lot different. My parents & husband got to meet the Doctor (Dr. Homan) one more time before the surgery started and he went over the procedure one more time. I also got the Docs autograph on my right chest!
We had to walk over to the OR, I was asked to change my clothes. I had to strip down completely, I was given a gown, robe, and socks and a little blue hat. I took a couple of pictures but not many, my photographer, my husband wasn't familiar with my camera, I think it was operator error. LOL!!! I get to my bed, I have a student nurse trying to place my IV in my hand , it didn't go so well. The head Nurse had to place the IV in my arm, which is where I preferred it anyway.
I didn't have to have a tube down my throat, yeah! Because when you wake up from that your throat is awfully soar. I was given some drugs to calm me down and relax me. At first I didn't feel it working, then after a minute or so I only remember waking up from the surgery, with my parents and husband looking at me. Surgery went well, no complications. All my lymph nodes were removed and also my right breast. While I was waking up I remember trying to remove the blankets from around me, but the nurse didn't want them to move because I woke up to the chills.
Finally I was moved to my room for the night and no one was able to spend the night due to limited space. I was thankful my surgery was successful. I called a lot of people that night and let them know I was okay and they were surprised to see me doing so well. Thanks for the support.
